At Meta Reality Labs, we are developing the future of Wearables and Mixed Reality products and this team focuses on developing display and optics technologies for Meta products. Their mission is to create see-through display systems that seamlessly blend the real and virtual realms. This involves designing the architecture and all display sub-systems for Augmented Reality glasses based on leading technologies developed by Meta's teams. We work on creating advanced display technologies that are essential for Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality systems while having sub-teams who connect bits, electrons, photons, and user experience for display products across wearables and the metaverse while focusing on display silicon architecture, applied perception studies, image quality, and defining the roadmap and long-term platform development strategy. Within XDO we also aim to develop and implement test, characterization, metrology, and data solutions to support the creation of transparent display systems.Display Optical Engineer ResponsibilitiesDrive the execution of display engineering builds on-site in particular, identify display risks, track and resolve issues through various phases of engineering development and productionServe as gatekeeper for display performance across modules and systems at factories throughout the engineering build phasesVerify and validate the display performance, drive the failure analysis of display/optical performance gap across display supply chain, and drive corrective actions to improve performance and customer experienceSupport the iteration of module-system specification allocation and convergence using build data and DOEs (Design of Experiments), and advanced analysis. Resolve discrepancies and ensure alignment across all levels across factories and supply chainsPerform data-driven tolerance analysis and manage performance budgets of optic modules, balancing manufacturability, cost implications, and system-level KPIs to optimize overall system performanceDevelop and derive new performance indicators at both component and system levels to quantify new display artifacts and develop corresponding specsLead display optical discussions in factories and serve as the display and optical interface between multiple functions (Metrology, process engineering, reliability engineering, Tech Ops, metrology)Collaborate with cross-functional teams, especially the teams in the US to enable productive and efficient work models across time zonesLead and guide international suppliers to execute display optical tasks, ranging from build execution, offline DOEs and data analysis, to scaling suppliers' capacity to support multiple product programsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Display Engineering, Optical engineering, Optics, Physics, Optics, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience6+ years of optical engineering experience in high-volume consumer electronics product developmentSystems design, Imaging, Illumination, Radiometry and photometry, Physical and geometric optics, Polarization optics, optical coatingSuccessful track record of delivering display modules or display systems into mass productionExperience in optical manufacturing, display or camera module, metrology, lens assembly, Polarized Beam Splitter (PBS), Beam combining assembly, optical thin filmExperience performing and designing DOE, data analysis, SPC control, yield improvement, root cause investigation, FACA, and quality controlExperience in working with display suppliers, and familiar with ODM/JDM modelExperience in optic design simulation, tolerancing, and stray light modeling of display module or systemPreferred QualificationsAdvanced degree in the field of Display Engineering, Optical engineering, Optics, Physics, Optics, or a relevant technical fieldProficient in one or more simulation and analysis tools, such as ZEMAX, TracePro, Lighttools, CodeV, statistical tools JMP, Matlab, or similar programsExperience with multiple full life cycle AR/VR (Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality) product launchesSix-sigma experience (Green Belt or Black Belt)Proven experience to handle ambiguity and collaborate effectively with large cross-functional teams and multi-layer supply chainsExperience in bringing up first generation technologies into device form factorsExperience in image quality analysis and metric developmentExperience with end to end display module development, from components to system and balancing the performance and costAbout MetaMeta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology. People who choose to build their careers by building with us at Meta help shape a future that will take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today-beyond the constraints of screens, the limits of distance, and even the rules of physics.Equal Employment OpportunityMeta is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
