- Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead multi-disciplinary mechanical Simultaneous Engineering (SE) teams to develop and execute project plans, ensuring on-time delivery within budget and quality standards across variant and platform projects.
- Requirements Management: Analyze customer specifications (including technical, commercial, and regulatory requirements) and translate into detailed internal mechanical specifications. Collaborate with SE teams to prioritize technical focus areas and define project scope.
- Design & Development Management: Drive mechanical concept development using PE methodologies (FAM, DFMEA, DFMA) to validate design integrity covering performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
- Design to Function: Lead design optimization efforts to resolve technical gaps, ensuring alignment with product architecture and platform strategies.
- Design to Cost: Lead the mechanical development team to realize the target cost, including material cost and manufacturing cost.
- Manufacturing & Supply Chain Collaboration: Partner with purchasing and suppliers to negotiate lead times and optimize costs. Manage prototype builds, including supplier coordination, sample validation, and production readiness reviews (PPAP). Create BoM and release to the manufacturable status.
- Testing & Validation Coordination: Oversee mechanical verification plan incl. DV&PV, ensuring timely execution of functional, environmental, and reliability tests. Monitor test progress, resolve issues, organize review meetings and approve results for design release, conduct risk assessment if necessary.
- Overall Project Execution & Control: Follow APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and company-defined development processes to manage project milestones, risks, and dependencies. Conduct regular project reviews with stakeholders, reporting progress on QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) metrics and escalating issues as needed. Support production launch activities, including resolving manufacturing issues and ensuring smooth transition from development to mass production.
- Process & Risk Management: Lead mechanical dev. activities to identify and mitigate design/process risks. Drive continuous improvement in project management and engineering processes.
