- Planning and reporting: Collaborate with Dyson internal teams and ODM/JDM to identify dependencies, risks and mitigation strategies within design engineering context. Assess, plan and agree on activities to meet design and project goals. Monitor and report on progress to stakeholders.
- Requirement management: Identify and manage assembly requirements and subsequent changes, ensuring alignment with architecture and traceability to product requirements, and clearly defining interfaces with other assemblies. Ensure that ODM/OEM correctly interpret and implement requirements throughout the development phases.
- Technical management: Oversee the development of mechanical engineering solutions by our ODM/JDM teams, including the integration of electrical parts. Drive design reviews and ensure solutions follow robust engineering principles, comply with Dyson quality standards, and are delivered in a timely and cost- effective manner.
- Build evaluation: Evaluate the build process to confirm its effectiveness and efficiency in achieving design and project goals. Assess the quality of build outputs against the requirements, ensuring they meet the established standards.
- Test evaluation: Provide technical guidance in test planning and the development of test methods. Drive the execution and reporting of testing activities, ensuring that the tests are conducted properly and results are accurately documented.
- Design maturity assessment: Assess the results of design iterations, such as performance metrics, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and lessons learned, to evaluate design maturity level and guide future design iterations.
- Detail Design: Supporting to turn the new technology into manufacturable solutions, responsible and accountable reviewing and signing off design engineering deliverables including 3D model, engineering drawings, tolerance stacks, engineering BOM, etc.
- Change Management and Part Approval: Change and Part Approval: Review and approve Change Request, review or approve engineering deliverables including drawings and engineering BOM, part approval or Deviation Request, ensuring the estimated efforts, risks and benefits are satisfactory before proceeding.
- ODM/JDM engagement: Provide subject matter expertise in Request for Information (RFI), Request for Proposal (RFP), Request for Quotation (RFQ), Master Service Agreement (MSA) and Scope of Work (SOW) processes, facilitating informed decision- making.
- Capability to explain technical findings, conclusions and recommendations with scientific data / proof systematically to Directors, Heads of Departments, Design Managers in a clear and concise fashion.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge and application of Systems Engineering, Requirements Management, and Risk Management in product development.
- Strong understanding of product development methodology. Proven ability to scope development work, decompose complex problems into manageable tasks, plan work based on need, and eliminate non- value- adding activities.
- Established track record of developing robust engineering solutions from concept to market launch. In- depth knowledge of manufacturing and assembly techniques for plastic injection molding, metal stamping, die- casting, and rubber parts. Capable of challenging tool makers, molders, and assembly suppliers on their technical proposals and driving improvements.
- Skilled at estimating the cost of various design options and selecting the most cost- effective direction.
- Practical knowledge of 3D CAD, PLM systems, and analysis packages.
- Exceptional analytical and problem- solving abilities using a variety of methodologies.
- Strong leadership abilities with a track record of influencing others to successfully deliver results on time. Experience in collaborating with ODM/JDM partners, demonstrating resourcefulness and maintaining trust and credibility.
- Excellent communication skills with stakeholders at all levels, both written and verbal, in English and Chinese.
